Frequently asked questions

You have a special one? Send us a message

  • Where are we going?

For our next iteration in 2024 we will explore the area around Disko Island, Greenland, starting from Ilulissat.

  • What should I bring? Do I need special clothing?

Once you join us, we will provide you with a packing list and equipment advice for a sailing trip in the arctic summer.

Can I bring my special equipment for my project?

Yes. We will decide together what will fit and is safe to take, and find solutions for your ideas. Bear in mind that space on board is limited, and logistics in Greenland can be challenging.

Can I buy my equipment / tools / etc. in Ilulissat?

Make sure to bring all the specialized equipment you might need, as most things - e.g. electronic devices -might not be available in town.

  • What can I expect to see?

The natural elements of Greenland: the sea, geology in all its beauty, ice in all its varieties, a varied and surprising vegetation and - if we are lucky - the large marine mammals that inhabit the Arctic. And then there is the unexpected we are looking for.

Can I expect to finish a certain project?

We facilitate observations, measurements and experiments. The Arctic always has the last word: even in summer, the conditions can suddenly change and alter ideas and projects.

The impressions and experiences during the expeditions often transform what has already been started and lead to new ideas. Don't expect to return with completed works, but with new data, insights and questions.

Do I need to produce work?

No. This residency is enabling research and experiments.

  • How will I be accomodated on board?

The ship has shared comfy cabins and shared bathrooms with shower, as well as a cosy salon and ample space on deck to focus and work.

Where can I stay before and after the expedition?

Ilulissat offers a range of hotels, hostels and Airbnb.

  • How much is the participant fee?

The participent fee will be issued in the guidelines of each expedition’s open call. You can find the current one here.

I just graduated. Can I get a discount?

Our program is designed to enable emerging artists and researchers to get to know the Arctic in a dynamic and small-scale setting at the beginning of their careers or at pivotal points. Therefore, we keep the costs as low as possible for everyone.

Can I work on board to lower the fee?

On board we will travel and work together in a close and cooperative setting, focusing on the ideas and projects of the participants. Everything else will be taken care of. It is therefore not possible to work on board during the expedition.

  • Can you help me to get funding?

We will issue a Letter of Invitation that meets the requirements of your funding applications.

Can I have a sponsor on board?

We encourage support from private, institutional or corporate sponsors. However, it is important to us that these correspond to our values of sustainability and diversity.
